As Open Jaw reported on 24JAN, the Mexican state of Quintana Roo was set to increase the visitor tax to 3.25 x UMA - UMA being the country’s standard reference value forming the basis for the calculation of all federal and state government collections, taxes, fees and penalties.
The value of the UMA was announced (see below) on 10JAN at 108.57 pesos. Based on what accredited VISITAX collection company Travelkore has told Open Jaw, “this would put the price of VISITAX to 351 Mexican pesos which as of today would be 20.67 USD. The state will release the final figure and both Quintana Roo and Travelkore will both charge the same amount, the only difference is the currency we charge in.”
The new rate will instituted as of 01FEB.
