Virgin Voyages has revealed its latest mermaid hull design for its second ship, Valiant Lady.
The cruise line, which launched with its first ship last year, has also announced the 2022 European sailings for its newest ship's inaugural season.
Like Scarlet Lady who came before, Valiant Lady also features dramatic mermaid hull art. According to the line, the mermaids that adorn Virgin Voyages' ships are meant to keep guests safe and are an important symbol for the brand.
This latest mermaid design was created by artist Hillary Wilson and represents "tension between strength and vulnerability; a woman who is unafraid of her own power and never backs down."
In the press release, Virgin Voyages stated that the line "wanted an inclusive group of mermaids that reflect and celebrate diversity" as these values are important to the brand. Wilson's background in both classical art and medical drawing inspired this art that "celebrates the human form in all its glory."
”The breath of people that live and exist in the world — I feel so lucky that I get to experience them and create art from them. How lucky are we to get to paint all these kinds of people? To rejoice in all the kinds of people that exist and all the ways you can draw them,” Wilson said.
Valiant Lady debuts in 2022, and Virgin Voyages has shared its inaugural European sailings.
Sailing from its homeport of Portsmouth, UK, Valiant Lady will sail 3-night, 11-night, and 12-night voyages to popular European destinations such as Spain, Portugal, Belgium, and the Canary Islands.
Highlights include late-night and overnight stays in Málaga, Palma de Mallorca, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Lisbon, and Zeebrugge.
