TICO is forming a new Consumer Advisory Council (CAC).
In a press release, TICO said the goal of the CAC is to provide guidance and advice to the Board of Directors and senior management regarding Ontario's travel consumer protection laws from a consumer's perspective.
The previous Consumer and Industry Advisory Committee (CIAC) was dissolved 31DEC, 2023. According to TICO, two new councils are now being formed – the CAC to hear directly from consumers and a separate Industry Advisory Council, which will be dedicated to receiving feedback from the industry.
"Members of both councils are expected to possess a positive orientation towards TICO's consumer protection mandate," TICO said in a statement.
Recruiting members for the CAC
TICO is actively seeking members for its CAC, which will become active as of 01APR, 2024.
"Using a selection process, our goal is to select up to 12 new members for the inaugural committee."
TICO aims to select members representing various consumer interests and backgrounds.
"In addition to a positive orientation to consumer protection, we are looking for prospective members who:
- Understand and embrace TICO's consumer protection mandate;
- Have experience in disciplines such as education, public service, communications, marketing or from within a regulatory environment;
- Demonstrate independent thinking and an orientation towards consensus building and teamwork;
- Represent the diversity of Ontario, willing to consider a broad range of perspectives, and
- Have unquestionable integrity, credibility and high ethical standards."
The CAC will meet up to four times per year.
