Air Canada Trims Frequencies in North America, Caribbean

Air-Canada

Air Canada is cutting capacity on additional routes for summer and fall 2026, just days after Open Jaw reported the airline's cancellation of a seventh route due to surging fuel costs.

According to aviation consultancy Ailevon Pacific, the airline is reducing capacity from Vancouver International (YVR) to Halifax (YHZ), Quebec City (YQB) and Miami (MIA), as well as trimming Toronto (YYZ) to St. Maarten (SXM). No specific frequency reductions have been disclosed yet.

The latest changes follow Air Canada’s earlier decision to drop Montreal–Algiers for the summer 2026 season (01JUN–23SEP), its seventh route to be removed from its schedule. On 17APR, the carrier said rising jet fuel prices were “affecting some lower profitability routes and flights which now are no longer economically feasible."

The statement went on to say that "schedule adjustments including some frequency reductions are being made in response."
