"Following the success of the seasonal service that began last year, Westjet has announced the introduction of year-round flights from Calgary (YYC) to Tokyo (NRT), its first-ever year-round service to an Asian destination," the Japan National Tourism Organization stated in a release.
"This expanded connectivity marks a major milestone for the JNTO as they commit to enhancing Canadian accessibility to Japan," officials said.
“I am so pleased that WestJet has made the decision to expand their service to Japan. This route enhancement is set to support our growing tourism industry and foster new economic collaborations between Alberta and Japan,” said Ken Toyoda, Executive Director of the JNTO Toronto Office. “Calgary is one of the most connected cities in North America, and we look forward to welcoming more Canadians to experience the full breadth of Japan’s natural beauty and culture.”
The debut of this expanded service comes as Japan looks to make new overtures to Canadians with a revitalized tourism offering in 2024. Beyond Tokyo’s bustling metropolis, this premier destination offers travellers the unique chance to immerse themselves in the serene beauty of Kyoto’s ancient temples, explore the historic Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park, relax in the hot springs of Hakone, and breathe deeply into the crisp airs and natural beauty of Mount Fuji.
Flights are available for booking on WestJet’s website and through selected travel advisors.
