KLM Royal Dutch Airlines has introduced new World Business Class seats for its Boeing 777-300 and 200 fleet.

These seats were designed based on customer research and aim to provide passengers with increased comfort and privacy, the company said in a release.

"Based on extensive customer and competitor research, we improved our World Business Class seats to ensure that customers have more privacy and comfort during their flight. The new seats are better in terms of design, technology and sustainability features. KLM meets a wide array of its passengers’ wishes with the new seats in World Business Class, Premium Comfort, Economy Comfort and Economy Class. We are delighted to offer these new products and related services to our customers worldwide," said Boet Kreiken, EVP Customer Experience at KLM.

The new World Business Class seats feature several new elements, including a sliding door, which allows passengers to close off their seat for additional privacy while working, relaxing, or sleeping. The seats are also lighter, weighing 10-15 per cent less than other business class seats in the market segment. This reduction in weight aligns with KLM's sustainability objectives.

Other features include:

  • More personal adjustment options and functionality, including an adjustable lower-back support and a subtle back-massage feature;
  • The seat can reclined fully flat to form a 198cm-long bed;
  • Multiple charging sockets that are visible and accessible, as well as a wireless charging option;
  • A lockable compartment where passengers can store their belongings, equipped with a built-in mirror.
  • A recessed bottle holder, allowing passengers to leave a water bottle on their tabletop, even during turbulence.

Jamco Venture seats have also been installed in a 1-2-1 configuration for KLM's new World Business Class. These seats were initially installed on KLM's Boeing 787 fleet and have been further improved in collaboration with Jamco. The seats are also lighter, which contribute to KLM’s sustainability objectives.

The entire Boeing 777-300 and 200 fleet will be equipped with the new World Business Class seats, along with the latest Premium Comfort cabin. The fleet-wide installation is expected to be completed within the next year.
