This is because these masks have a tight weave and a gap-free fit that filters out most particles. Air France, Lufthansa, and Finnair all recommend these masks. However, they can be difficult to find in the U.S. Dr. Anthony Fauci recommended wearing two lesser masks at once, but this solution may feel stuffy on long flights. For cloth masks, Mayo Clinic recommends tightly woven fabrics, especially cotton, that fit snugly without gaps.
