Flight disruptions continue for the fourth day in the United States, with over 9,000 flights delayed or cancelled due to severe storms, reports CNN.
United Airlines is experiencing the most significant impact, with 26 per cent of its schedule cancelled and 41 per cent of its schedule delayed.
On the evening of 27JUN, temporary ground stops were implemented for flights heading to major U.S. airports in the New York metro area, resulting in average delays of over two hours at LaGuardia Airport. While the Federal Aviation Administration cited weather as part of the reason for the flight disruption, airlines and other observers cite a lack of adequate air traffic control staffing and a lack of capacity at some U.S. airlines.
As of 10:55 am EDT on 28JUN, cancellations and delays within, into, or out of the United States totalled 721 and 1,927, respectively, according to FlightAware.
