Two people are missing and some 1,000 people have been evacuated from the Emilia-Romagna region of Italy due to heavy flooding from Storm Boris.

After ripping through central and Eastern Europe and killing at least 24 people, Boris has unleashed heavy rains and caused severe flooding in Emilia-Romagna, which includes Bologna, Modena and other popular tourist areas.

The Guardian said two people were reported missing in Traversara, a hamlet in Ravenna province, after the Lamone River burst its banks. “Schools have closed, railway lines have been disrupted and some roads were blocked by landslides,” the publication said.

The region was hit by heavy flooding in May of last year, causing 17 deaths.

“Italy is among Europe’s climate risk spots,” The Guardian said. “This summer alone it has endured unprecedented heatwaves, drought, wildfires, storms and severe flooding.”

Fatalities from Boris were recorded in Romania, Austria, Poland and the Czech Republic, with fears growing about the impact on Italy, The Independent reports. Central and Eastern European nations are reporting billions of dollars in damage from the storm.
