The 15th-anniversary edition of the Michelin Guide Hong Kong & Macau 2023 has recognized a total of 95 restaurants, with 78 in Hong Kong and 17 in Macau - including some Canadian connections.
This year's Michelin guide sees 15 restaurants receiving new stars or being promoted to higher spots. Additionally, four restaurants, including one new, have been awarded the Michelin Green Star, which recognizes establishments at the forefront of the industry for their sustainable practices and dining experiences that combine culinary excellence with outstanding eco-friendly commitments. The guide also features three special awards: the Michelin Guide Service Award, Michelin Guide Sommelier Award, and Michelin Guide Young Chef Award.
Hong Kong-Canada Connection
Canadians planning trips to the city may be interested in adding Michelin-starred restaurants with ties to Canada to their plans in Hong Kong. Two chefs with Canada connections are included in this year's guide: MasterChef Canada judge Alvin Leung's Bo Innovation received two stars, and George Brown-trained Vicky Cheng received one star with Vea.
Alvin Leung's Bo Innovation and Demon Celebrity
Bo Innovation has received critical acclaim for its playful and artfully crafted dishes, which pay homage to Hong Kong's vibrant culinary culture. The Demon Celebrity is a culinary collaboration between Chef Alvin Leung, also known as the "Demon Chef," and Master Fu of the former Celebrity Cuisine. This unique restaurant offers innovative interpretations of traditional Cantonese cuisine, featuring signature dishes like fried pork intestine stuffed with minced cuttlefish and black truffle.
