Last week, the Mexican state of Yucatan's same sex marriage law went into effect The state’s congress approved marriage between two people of the same sex back in AUG 2021 with the law in full effect as of MAR 2022.
In celebration of the new development, Yucatan highlights its destination wedding offerings as "the ideal spot to celebrate love."
Whether it’s a traditional Mayan ceremony, a beach wedding, a tour of Pueblos Mágicos (Magical Towns) and hacienda gardens, or saying “I do” in a boutique hotel, Yucatán says it is ready to celebrate the love of any couple.
"Welcome to a paradise that celebrates, hand in hand with you, the most anticipated and special day of your life, where you can have the confidence and happiness you deserve, and where love means everything. A place that is painted with rainbows and celebrates each and every one of the colors that it represents. A place where all love is celebrated, with the same rights, with the same name and in the same celebration," state tourism officials said in a statement.
They pointed out some of the features of romance travel to the state that now, all couples can enjoy openly, including cenotes (water-filled sinkholes), said to be portals to the "fantastical Mayan underworld of legend," as well as locales like Yucatan's beaches of white sand, palms and emerald-green waters. Then there’s the history of pre-Columbian structures, colonial-era buildings and modern architecture. All of these venues offer a variety of settings for the commemoration of "love without strictures."
