Qantas' Newest Ad Promotes Vaccinations to Reconnect People

Qantas has released a new ad, and it's not promoting the airline as much as it's encouraging viewers to get vaccinated against COVID-19 so we can reconnect with loved ones.

The video, called "Fly Away," shows what the future could be like when vaccination rates are high enough and Australia reopens.

The ad is part of Qantas' "Be Rewarded" campaign, which a choice of flight vouchers, frequent flyer points, or status credits to Australians who upload proof of vaccination onto the Qantas app.

As of 23AUG, just 24.5 per cent of eligible Australians are fully vaccinated, and the government indicates it will not ease travel restrictions until that rate is around 80 per cent, according to Simple Flying.

Australians reacted positively to the video, with many saying that it made them think about reuniting with friends and family.

"My sister and her kids live overseas and I haven’t seen them in over 18 months. I miss them so much it hurts. So that [Qantas] ad got me in the feels. If getting vaccinated every week would let me see my sister again soon I would do it," said Liz Ellis on Twitter.

“Great job Qantas. Lets fly again!!! Missing loved ones I haven’t seen in two years," said a viewer on YouTube.
