Germany Announces New Wellness-Focused Tourism Campaign

The German National Tourist Board has announced their new campaign, German.Spa.Tradition, aimed at promoting Germany as a travel destination with a long tradition in health and wellness activities.

There are of course appealing photos of the country’s spas, historic hot springs and other wellness attractions, but the campaign is broken into five distinct themes and practices.

The first, Breathe, presents Germany’s landscapes as ideal for activities like walking, hiking and meditational forest bathing. Renew showcases natural resources like peat, mud and mineral springs. Enjoy aims to show how spa traditions live on in architecture, events and exhibitions. Feel highlights natural treatments. Taste focuses on the link between food, drink and healthy diets.

The campaign also commemorates the 200th anniversary of the birth of Sebastian Kneipp, a Catholic priest and one of the forefathers of the naturopathic movement.

“People are looking to recharge their batteries, and they can do that at more than 350 approved spa and health resorts across Germany,” said Petra Hedorfer, CEO of the GNTB in a statement.

“Visitors will benefit from local remedies that can only be found in these locations. A long-standing spa tradition and the highest quality standards in medical care can help with recovery and illness prevention, while a healthy diet and exercise in unspoilt countryside allow body and mind to recuperate. Thanks to a winning combination of exceptional character and historical spa architecture, as well as parks and cultural offerings, wellness holidays in Germany’s spa resorts are a truly memorable experience.”
