FOUNTAIN OF YOUTH

Study Says Travel Slows Down Aging Process

If there’s anything that sells better than travel, it’s the promise of eternal youth. And according to new research, travel itself is an anti-aging fix.

So forget the expensive face creams and cancel the plastic surgeon, tell your clients to travel more and postpone to premature aging.

A study out of Australia by Edith Cowan University PhD candidate Fangli Hu, says leisure travel “might help alleviate chronic stress, dampen overactivation of the immune system and encourage normal functioning of the self-defense system.”

“Forget about retinol night creams,” Hu said. “Travel therapy could be a groundbreaking health intervention.”

"Aging, as a process, is irreversible,” she said. “While it can't be stopped, it can be slowed down. Tourism isn't just about leisure and recreation. It could also contribute to people's physical and mental health."

Travel encompasses physical activities such as hiking, climbing, walking, and cycling, the study said. Physical exertion can boost metabolism, energy expenditure, and material transformation, all of which help coordinate self-organising systems.

Of course, there can be negatives associated with travel, as anyone who’s tried to traverse a major airport during the winter holidays can tell you.

“The research has pointed out that tourists could face challenges,” Science Daily reports. “Tourism can involve negative experiences that potentially lead to health problems, paralleling the process of promoting entropy increase. A prominent example is the public health crisis of COVID-19."
