Angela Avery has decided to retire from her role as Group executive vice-president and chief People, Corporate & Sustainability officer at WestJet.
WestJet says a comprehensive executive search for her replacement is underway.
Avery will continue in her current role until a replacement is named and will stay in an advisory capacity until early next year.
“On behalf of everyone at WestJet, including our board, we sincerely thank Angela for her contributions and commitment to our airline,” said WestJet Group CEO Alexis von Hoensbroech.
“Angela joined WestJet in February 2020 and has been instrumental in navigating WestJet through the pandemic and positioning the WestJet Group for its continued success. While we are saddened to lose Angela to retirement, we wish her well in the next phase of her life.”
Avery initially joined WestJet as EVP, general counsel and corporate secretary. Over her tenure, she took on additional accountabilities, including People and Culture, Communications, Government Relations, External Affairs, Community Investment and Sustainability.
“My time at WestJet has been an incredible highlight in my 30-year career. Being part of the team that responded to one of the worst crises in aviation history with unwavering dedication to our guests and each other has been immensely rewarding,” said Avery. “I was privileged to have participated in an important chapter of the WestJet success story and wish my colleagues the very best as they continue the important work of making air travel affordable for all Canadians.”
