ACTA is calling out the lack of progress reported at TICO's annual general meeting (AGM) on 24SEP.
In reference to Recommendation 16 from the Auditor General's report last year, ACTA stated that it is "concerned that nearly a year has passed since the publication of the Auditor General's report."
Following an initial meeting with Ministry staff in December 2023, ACTA said it has yet to receive further updates despite repeated inquiries.
"We call on the Ontario government to engage in open dialogue and take prompt action to address this pressing issue," said Wendy Paradis, ACTA president. "The continued growth and success of Ontario's travel industry depend on modernizing our regulatory framework."
The association says the review is vital for Ontario travel agencies and independent advisors to foster a more productive and innovative economy while supporting jobs throughout the province.
"We are committed to collaborating with the government on this crucial initiative. Our members possess extensive expertise and insights that could significantly contribute to developing an efficient and effective regulatory framework,” Paradis added.
An Ontario Auditor General report last year had harsh words about the performance of TICO, including criticism over the cost of its Compensation Fund, the holding of security deposits, and a lack of compliance inspections.
TICO announced on 15JUL that it has completed five action items associated with the nine recommendations directed solely at the association by the Auditor General.
