Rodriguez Resigns; Anita Anand New Canadian Minister of Transport

Another year, another federal Transport Minister.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has tapped Treasury Board President Anita Anand to take on additional duties as Canada's new Minister of Transportation. She’ll be the third Canadian transport minister in the last 14 months.

The Canadian government shakeup came after Pablo Rodriguez announced he was quitting as Transport Minister to run for the leadership of the Quebec Liberal Party.

Rodriguez took over the top transportation job in Canada in July of 2023 after then Transport Minister Omar Algahbra resigned. Alghabra was appointed in January 2021, replacing Marc Garneau. Which means Canada has had four Transport Ministers in less than a four-year span.

Anand was born in Kentville, Nova Scotia in 1967 and moved to Ontario in 1985. She has taught law at The University of Toronto, Yale Law School, Queen’s University, and Western University.

Anand was elected to Parliament in the riding of Oakville, Ontario in 2019. She has previously served as Minister of National Defence and as Minister of Public Services and Procurement.
