Mexican State of Quintana Roo Drops Visitax Rate to $17 USD

The price for visiting Quintana Roo has dropped by a couple of Canadian dollars.

Effective immediately, Travelkore, the officially sanctioned payment app, says it has been authorized by the State of Quintana Roo’s representatives to adjust the pricing of VISITAX to $17 USD and $22.50 CAD down from $18.80 USD and $25.00 CAD.

“As the state authorized platform for VISITAX payments, all Travelkore affiliate collection links are automatically updated to new pricing levels, requiring no action from industry partners,” the company said. “Authorized payment sites can be identified by the Travelkore logo on the VISITAX form. Traveller’s automated QR code is delivered instantly.

“This adjustment aims to eliminate confusion and bolster security and privacy for travellers,” Travelkore said. “The new pricing also addresses past discrepancies by allowing travellers who were misinformed about the tax to settle any unpaid dues from previous trips in accordance with the law.”

“If travellers leave without paying the tax, the obligation remains for past visits. We see many past visitors to the state paying the tax retroactively,” Travelkore’s Tim Scurry said. “It’s the law down there.”

For consumers in the US or Canada, Travelkore offers the ability to pay in local currency, avoiding any additional fees including foreign exchange charges (up to 3%) that may be applied by credit card companies. Paying via the government website in Mexican pesos is subject to bank rates and exchange fees.
