National Tourism Week is Here.
Now in its 14th year, National Tourism Week (NTW) is a dynamic, weeklong national social media campaign orchestrated by the Tourism Industry Association of Canada (TIAC). This esteemed event, scheduled for 15-19APR 2024, is a crucial platform for highlighting the pivotal role of tourism in Canada.
TIAC, along with its supportive partners, is enthusiastically inviting all Canadians to partake in celebrating the nation's finest offerings to the world under the inspiring banner of NTW 2024's theme:
Canada: Powered by Tourism
This year's enduring theme echoes the undeniable truth that tourism is a cornerstone of Canada's prosperity. It's a sector that fuels the creation of 1 in 15 (2019) jobs nationwide, infusing over $100 billion in expenditure into the Canadian economy.
But tourism's significance transcends mere economic measures. Its profound impact weaves through Canada's cultural tapestry, reflecting the diverse ideals, people, and communities that form the heart of this nation.
“Canada is a tourism superpower,” said Federal Tourism Minister Soraya Martinez Ferrada. “We have majestic mountains, dynamic downtowns, friendly folks and so much more. We have what the world wants.
"National Tourism Week is a chance to celebrate the faces and places that make our country so special, including the millions of Canadians who work in tourism.
“Tourism has incredible potential, and we're seizing it,” said Martinez Ferrada. “Our goal is to increase the sector's contribution to Canada's GDP by 40% by 2030, to $61 billion. This means roughly 85,000 more jobs stemming directly from tourism.
"It's about more than statistics, however. It's about Canada taking its place as a tourism superstar. That's why we're supporting businesses through the Tourism Growth Program, a $108 million investment in tourism businesses across the country,” she said.
"Indigenous tourism has the power to advance reconciliation while creating opportunities across Canada. Through initiatives such as the Indigenous Tourism Fund, we're partnering with communities and leaders to seize these opportunities.”
Want to get involved? TIAC has a list of four ways:
Go Green
Whether you are a destination, landmark, attraction, venue, hotel, or other tourism business, TIAC is asking all operators to “go green” by highlighting our important tourism assets in TIAC green (colour hex code #8BC53F). As part of the #GoGreen social media campaign during Tourism Week, going green raises awareness of the industry’s economic, social, and cultural importance.
Remember to snap a few pics and share them on social media using the official National Tourism Week hashtags of #TourismWeekCanada2024 and #GoGreen.
