MSC Cruises introduced its new flagship, MSC Euribia, at a naming ceremony on 08JUN.
Spectators in Copenhagen were greeted by music, song and dance during the ceremony, which saw actress and ship godmother Sophia Loren conduct the customary bottle smash and British singer Tony Hadley perform a selection of hits.
In between the various performances, videos highlighted MSC Cruises’ journey, including its sustainability progress.
MSC Euribia is powered by LNG, a clean marine fuel widely available at scale. The ship also incorporates environmental technology, including wastewater treatment systems and waste management handling. Its design enables easy integration of future sustainability innovations, such as carbon-neutral synthetic and alternative fuels. MSC Euribia is expected to be the world's most energy-efficient cruise ship at the time of its launch.
During its maiden voyage from Saint-Nazaire to Copenhagen 03-08JUN, MSC Euribia generated net zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions based on the mass balance system.
MSC Euribia is the 22nd vessel in the MSC Cruises fleet. The new flagship will commence sailing in Northern Europe this summer, offering seven-night sailings from Kiel, Germany, and Copenhagen, Denmark, to the captivating Norwegian Fjords, including Geiranger, Ålesund, and Flaam.
