Air Canada has resumed flights between Vancouver and Beijing following a five year suspension.
A special ceremony was held in Beijing on 15JAN with local travel partners, government officials and business leaders in attendance “to celebrate this exciting new chapter in global connectivity.,” Air Canada’s Rocky Lo said on his LinkedIn page.
“Air Canada is thrilled to mark the successful resumption of direct flights between Beijing and Vancouver,” said Lo, Managing Director, International Sales. “This flight resumption not only strengthens the bond between two vibrant cities but also opens new doors for tourism, trade and cultural exchanges. It’s an incredible milestone in enhancing travel opportunities and fostering stronger ties between China and Canada.”
Air Canada last fall announced it would be resuming daily service from Canada to Beijing and would increase its Shanghai flights to daily on 08DEC, 2024. Both routes operate from the airline's YVR hub.
"We are resuming our non-stop services between Canada and Beijing and increasing our flights between Canada and Shanghai, reflecting the importance of these markets in Air Canada's global network,” Mark Galardo, Executive Vice President – Revenue and Network Planning, said at the time. “With the investments we have made at our YVR hub linking Air Canada's extensive North American network to our international flights, travelling between North America and Asia is convenient and compelling for leisure and business travellers alike."
