WestJet is losing one of its key management team members.
In a note posted on his LinkedIn page, Andy Gibbons, the airline’s affable vice president of external affairs, said he’ll be departing WestJet on 24JAN, 2025.
“After over 12 years and close to 20 including consulting, I announced today I am resigning from WestJet to pursue new opportunities,” he said. “I will be with the company until January 24th.
“This is a difficult decision given my passion and dedication to the work and my colleagues. But it is the right and timely one for my life and career.
“Working at WestJet has been an incredible professional experience for which I am deeply grateful,” he said on Linked In. “In the GR/PR space I am not sure there could be a more challenging and fulfilling experience.
“Being an ambassador for our employees, partners and communities who rely on us has been a privilege. Whether is was the dark days of COVID-19 or rolling out our growth strategy in key markets or promoting WestJet and Canada globally it has been one incredible ride.”
Gibbons is known for having built strong ties in the travel industry in Canada and around the world, and was a key player in helping build WestJet’s business. He also appeared alongside WestJet CEO Alexis von Hoensbroech at many a government hearing in Ottawa to discuss everything from airline competition to bag fees.
“I have worked with the best people across Canada through thick and thin and I am so lucky to have been able to cultivate and nurture a national network of friends and associates,” he said. “I’m so proud of the team and what we have been able to achieve together. From policy advocacy to partnership development to managing crises it has been an incredible ride.
“WestJet is a great Canadian company and I’m grateful to have been able to do this work for so long and with such great colleagues, stakeholders, friends and partners,” Gibbons added. “I’m looking forward to engaging with so many of you on what’s next.”
