British Airways Matches Aeroplan Status

British Airways has a great matching status deal for Canadian and U.S. members of rival loyalty programs.

From now until 07MAY, elite members of eight airline programs, including Air Canada/Aeroplan, can obtain reciprocal status with the equivalent British Airways Executive Club status at no extra cost.

That allows pax to enjoy such benefits as lounge access, additional baggage on British Airways flights, priority check-in, and access to preferred or pre-reserved seats.

“If you live in the U.S. or Canada, you’re a member of selected airline Frequent Flyer programmes and you’ve reached one of their highest membership tiers, we’re going to match your Membership level,” British Airways said on its website. “For a limited time only, you can take advantage of this offer to become a Silver or Gold Executive Club Member and enjoy more benefits when you fly with us.”

Specifically, members holding the following status levels will be able to match British Airways' Executive Club Silver status:

Air Canada Aeroplan 50K

United MileagePlus Premier Gold

Delta SkyMiles Gold Medallion

Lufthansa Miles&More Senator

Air France-KLM Flying Blue Gold

Scandinavian Airlines EuroBonus Gold

Virgin Atlantic Flying Club Silver

As well, members holding the following status levels will be able to match to British Airways' top-tier Executive Club Gold status:

Air Canada Aeroplan 75K and Super Elite

United MileagePlus Premier Platinum and Premier 1K

Delta SkyMiles Platinum Medallion

Lufthansa Miles & More Hon Circle

Air France-KLM Flying Blue Platinum

Scandinavian Airlines EuroBonus Diamond and Pandion

Virgin Atlantic Flying Club Gold

“British Airways doesn’t typically run as many status match campaigns as other airlines, which makes this opportunity particularly intriguing if you’re eligible,” said PrinceofTravel.com. “The best perks are having access to business class lounges when travelling in any class of service, priority check-in and boarding, free seat selection at the time of booking, and an increased baggage allowance.”

How to upgrade

Join the Executive Club for free, if you're not already a member. You must apply online by 07MAY 2024.

Upload proof of your status in a Frequent Flyer program with one of BA’s selected airlines.

BA will then review your application to check you’re eligible for tier match. This usually takes five business days.

Once approved, you'll receive an acceptance email and an upgraded digital Membership card. You’ll then be able to enjoy six months of Silver or Gold Membership.

If you want to keep your membership for more than six months, you have to book and travel on two qualifying transatlantic flights (one round trip) within six months of the date you’re upgraded.

To qualify, these flights must:

Be a British Airways-marketed flight in business (Club World) or First

Be operated by British Airways, American Airlines, Iberia or Finnair

Originate from the U.S., Canada or Mexico

Fly to the U.K. and onwards to Europe

Be eligible for earning Tier Points and collecting Avios (the loyalty currency of the British Airways Executive Club and its partners)
