Toronto Pearson's Tips and Tools for Pain-Free Holiday Travel

Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ), Canada's largest and busiest airport, is gearing up for the holiday rush, with over one million travellers expected.

The Greater Toronto Airports Authority (GTAA) has implemented various measures outlined by Deborah Flint, the President and CEO.

Flint stated, "This year, we've taken significant steps to enhance our winter operational capabilities to prepare for the holidays. The GTAA is fully staffed, has enhanced deicing and slow clearing capabilities, and is ready to welcome a record number of passengers through our airport this winter."

The GTAA recommends utilizing the following digital tools:

  1. YYZ Express: This online reservation program allows travellers to secure a spot in the security line up to 72 hours before their flight.
  2. Mobile Passport Control: An app introduced by the United States Customs and Border Protection, enabling travellers to digitally submit information for a streamlined departure experience when heading to the US.
  3. Live Wait Times Dashboard: Provides real-time information on wait times, allowing passengers to plan accordingly.
  4. Peak Travel Times Dashboard: Offers insights into peak travel periods to help travellers better schedule their arrivals.
  5. Advance Declaration: Provided by the Canada Border Services Agency, allowing travellers to submit customs and immigration declarations up to 72 hours before flying into Canada, granting access to an Express Lane in the customs area.
  6. Operations Updates on X: (formerly known as Twitter) Keeps passengers informed with real-time operational updates.

Anticipating a 10% increase in passengers and a 20% surge in checked bags compared to last year, airport officials emphasize preparedness. Additionally, The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) travel tips include the reminder that liquids exceeding 100ml, including snow globes, will be confiscated during security checks. Gifts should remain unwrapped in case border services officers need to inspect the contents, and (as always) travellers are encouraged to pack their patience!
