Due to severe winter weather in Western Canada, Sunwing has cancelled all southbound departures from YVR and cancelled some flights from YLW, YYC, YEG, YXE, YQR and YWG.
YVR cancellations apply to all southbound flights "up to and including" 25DEC 2022, the operator said on its web site.
YLW, YYC, YEG, YXE, YQR, and YWG cancellations apply to "select" soutbound departures also up to and including 25DEC. Sunwing says that it is in the process of advising affected customers or their travel agents, but has not detailed in its travel advisory which specific flights are affected.
Sunwing notes that customers with cancelled flights will receive a full refund to their original form of payment, and that no action is required from customers. Refunds will be processed within 30 days, the operator said.
For pax looking to change their travel to a different date, Sunwing says they can do so before 27DEC by contacting their travel agent or the Sunwing Sales Centre at 1-877-786-9464. If no changes are reflected on customers' bookings by 27DEC 2022, the booking will be automatically cancelled and a refund issued, with no action required from customers.
"We sincerely apologize for cancellations during the busy holiday period, and thank our customers across Western Canada as we work to overcome challenges brought on by severe winter weather," Sunwing said.
Updates on Flight Delays
On 21DEC, Sunwing released a separate travel alert, noting that number of northbound and southbound flights continue to be impacted by delays caused by "ongoing weather events and resulting crew constraints across key Canadian gateways."
For impacted customers with flight delays of 24 hours or more and scheduled travel up to and including 24DEC 2022, the Sunwing says the following options are available:
- Customers can cancel their flight or vacation and receive a full refund to the original form of payment by contacting their travel agent or the Sunwing Sales Centre at 1-877-786-9464, provided the cancellation request is made prior to the customer's departure.
- Customers who would prefer to make a one time change to their travel plans may do so by contacting their travel agent or the Sunwing Sales Centre, for revised travel up to 30MAR 2023. Sunwing will waive the fee for changes of travel date or destination. Current system rates will apply.
- Those customers who would prefer to travel as planned are encouraged to sign up for flight alerts on Sunwing's web site for the up-to-date information on travel times, but further delays are expected.
Sunwing notes that compensation eligibility will depend on the circumstances of the specific flight delay. Passengers may submit a claim for compensation or a refund through Sunwing's web site. The operator notes that claims must be submitted a minimum of 48 hours after the flight arrives at its destination. Once the request is submitted, passengers will be advised immediately of the status of their claim. In all cases passengers may submit their receipts for related expenses to Sunwing Cares for review.
