GRAND Entertainment and Activities

Unforgettable moments inside and outside the resort

Whether Canadian vacationers are looking for relaxation or recreation, Catalonia Grand Costa Mujeres Resort & Spa is an idyllic escape that will have them coming back for more. Between the steady on-site entertainment and the nearby adventures in the region, this luxury property has plenty of ways to keep busy–both inside and outside the resort.

A Resort with All the Makings of a Captivating Getaway

Although sargassum can be a problem on Mexico’s beaches, the Catalonia Grand Costa Mujeres is in such a location that it doesn’t get seriously affected by the invasive algae.

“One of the selling points of the Catalonia Grand Costa Mujeres is that we are not affected by seaweed like other areas in the Riviera Maya or Cancun. The current goes north to south and there is an island, Isla Mujeres, just in front of us that acts as a natural barrier,” says Dai Jimenez, Regional Sales Marketing Manager at Catalonia Hotels & Resorts.

Catalonia Grand Costa Mujeres – Beach

“The stretch of beach we have really is gorgeous and just before the beach, we have a dune that is protected by government law. It keeps that Caribbean Robinson Crusoe vibe. We also have huts on the beach, a beach bar, and a special area for our Privilege guests.”

During the day, guests can take their pick of two large swimming pools depending on the type of #PoolVibes they’re going for–the family-focused side of the resort is chock-full with poolside activities and entertainment, while relaxation is the name of the game on the left, adult-focused side.

Family Pool

“Entertainment staff host activities by the pool such as dance concerts or Spanish lessons,” says Jimenez. “We also have activities on the beach like volleyball and soccer. Various water sports are included in the stay for guests. We have water sports like kayaking, snorkeling, a Hobie Cat, and a catamaran. Those are part of the all-inclusive option.”

And let’s not forget the nightly entertainment. Each evening starts with pre-shows in the lobby bar with live bands and performances before the grand nightly show.

Kid’s Club

The resort also has an array of activities for the under-18-year-olds, from a Kid’s Club for ages four to 10 and a Teen’s Lounge and Teen’s Club for 11-to-17-years-old, both with supervised games and specialized staff.

While the kids are away, Mom and Dad can pamper themselves with a massage at Alegria Spa, where natural ingredients and therapeutic treatments will leave them feeling mentally and physically ready to return to a Canadian winter. Guests getting a massage or facial can access the hydrotherapy area with sauna, steam rooms, and an outdoor heated ocean-front infinity pool.

Quinta Avenida commercial boulevard

After all the pampering, guests may feel like a little night on the town. For that, they don’t need to physically be in Playa del Carmen to feel like they’re there, right in the action. The on-site Quinta Avenida (Fifth Avenue) commercial boulevard, located right in the heart of the resort, pays tribute to the famous avenue in Playa del Carmen and is alive with colourful boutique shops, evening street performances, and food stations serving everything from Peruvian ceviche to smoked hamburgers. This is where you’ll find not just restaurants, bars, and stores, but sparks of life and action.

“Quinta Avenida is a walking area where you can experience shopping, dining and entertainment. Sometimes, you can even catch a light show happening there or a saxophonist playing live,” says Jimenez.

Costa Mujeres: Where Seaside Charm Meets Yucatan Spirit

Costa Mujeres is a serene and secluded coastline community, despite being just 45 minutes north of Cancun’s bustling restaurants and nightlife. From snorkeling in Cozumel to the Mayan site of El Meco, the world outside the resort has plenty to offer, as well.

Taking a catamaran to the nearby island of Isla Mujeres is a can’t-miss experience. There, you can find one of most stunning beaches in the world, Playa Norte (it was voted the 19th best beach in the world and No. 1 in Mexico in the Tripadvisor Travelers’ Choice Best of the Best awards 2022).

Holbox is another nearby island certainly worth a visit. It’s the perfect day trip to escape the bustle. The beach here is unlike anything else—it has soft sand, clear water, and plenty of great spots to soak up the sun.
