It’s Not Just Great, It’s GRAND

Catalonia's Costa Mujeres resort raises the bar as first GRAND property

Catalonia Grand Costa Mujeres

The search for the best resort experience doesn’t end with a great room. Today’s discerning travellers seek a Caribbean experience that goes beyond a room with a view—one that offers amenities that make them feel comfortable, entertained, and maybe a little spoiled.

The Barcelona-based Catalonia Hotels & Resorts brand makes good on these expectations (and more!) with its new Grand concept and its first property in the Grand portfolio: Catalonia Grand Costa Mujeres All Suites & Spa.

Located in a quiet sliver of paradise in Mexico’s Costa Mujeres resort region, this luxury resort redefines what it means to stay at a Catalonia property. At the core of the Grand concept is an elevated guest experience for families, multi-generational groups, adults, and couples.

“It’s a deluxe product where guests will find 24-hour room service, a variety of liquor brands, and an exceptional level of service. For example, we have 15 gastronomic experiences, including vegan, vegetarian, and healthy restaurants,” says Dai Jimenez, Regional Sales Marketing Manager at Catalonia Hotels & Resorts.

Room Categories That Hit the Suite Spot

Just 45 minutes from the Cancun International Airport, the all-suite Catalonia Grand Costa Mujeres has room categories to suit the needs of every guest. Canadian travellers can choose this resort knowing that no matter the size or style of their travel party, their experience can be as serene or as stimulating as they want.

Catalonia Grand Costa Mujeres has 496 sophisticated suites with all the essentials to ensure an enjoyable stay, allowing couples to relax in seclusion, or families to enjoy spending time together in comfort and convenience with easy access to the resort’s facilities and services. Here’s a look at some of their most popular suite categories:

Superior Family Suite Room
  1. Family Suite Superior–Especially designed for families, these spacious suites accommodate up to four guests and feature a furnished terrace for savouring the Caribbean views.
  2. Privileged Romance Deluxe Swim-Up–The special complimentary amenities make these categories ideal for a couple’s getaway.
“The cool thing is that the Romance Deluxe Suites come with a couples’ massage, breakfast in bed, and a romantic candlelight dinner. Once you book this room category, you don’t have to do anything. You have those amenities included automatically. Couples also love the fact that these rooms are in a quiet and relaxing area,” Jimenez notes.
  3. Privileged Grand Family Suite Superior–With a maximum occupancy of six guests, this is the ultimate suite for families and multi-generational groups with up to four kids (2 adults and 4 minors or 5 adults and 1 minor).

“It’s a combination that you don’t see commonly,” notes Jimenez.

Privilege Suite Guests Get Pampered to Perfection

The Privileged room categories offer added amenities and inclusions to make their stay that much more special. Travel advisors can elevate their clients’ stay with:

Privileged Suite Swim Up Room
  1. Exclusive superior suites with a bathrobe and slippers in the room
  2. Access to the exclusive BLoved à la carte restaurant, an exclusive area on the beach, and the Pure Chill Out Bar
  3. Access to hydrotherapy circuit at Alegria Spa, once per stay
  4. 10% discounts at the on-site spa, boutiques and shops, romantic dinner, and other services at the resort
  5. Early check-in/late check-out, subject to availability

Micro Spaces for Every Type of Traveller

The Catalonia Grand Costa Mujeres is designed around principles of inclusion and seclusion. Half the resort caters to families, with larger suites and the upbeat buzz of entertainment, while the other half has King-sized beds and a serene, intimate atmosphere geared towards couples and adults.

The different vibes can even be felt around the pool area: the family-focused half of the resort has a vibrant pool area where entertainment is set to 10. The adult-focused pool area is more quiet and blissful.

“We designed the property to welcome everyone without being restrictive, but at the same time create micro spaces for everyone,” explains Jimenez. “The point of the design was to blend both worlds to create an ambiance for everyone without being restrictive.

Accessibility was also a big factor in the design.

“If you walk around the resort, you will notice there aren’t too many steps and there’s a lot of inclination so that people in a wheelchair can move freely around the property,” Jimenez says. “The relaxation pool has beach entry, so people in a wheelchair can access that pool. We also have complimentary wheelchairs with big wheels that float and can go into the pool.”

A European Twist on Caribbean Flair

Quinta Avenida boulevard

From the on-site Quinta Avenida boulevard to the luxuriously appointed modern rooms, guests can expect natural hues with pops of colour, contemporary design, and immaculately kept grounds. As Catalonia’s first custom-built property in Riviera Maya, the brand drew on its Spanish roots to bring a touch of Europe to the Mexican Caribbean.

“Costa Mujeres is a truly Catalonian design and concept. Since it’s our first in Costa Mujeres, we decided to bring that European vibe and style to the customer and beaches of Mexico,” says Jimenez.

“There’s also a lot of sunlight. We decided to really make it feel like a home, like you’re in your own apartment. We used different natural textures like rocks on the walls, or wood in the rooms, or the lobby with crystal walls.”
