Lindblad On Scene in Antarctica for “Green Flash” Solar Eclipse

National Geographic Resolution

Lindblad Expeditions went live on 04DEC from Antarctica to witness a solar eclipse. All three of its polar expedition ships in Antarctica, National Geographic Resolution, National Geographic Endurance, and National Geographic Explorer, were in the eclipse's path aboard its 24-day Antarctica, South Georgia, and the Falklands expedition.

According to Lindblad, guests and expedition teams were among the few humans present during the phenomenon. Commentary was provided by David Cothran, a Lindblad naturalist expert, along with Ralph Lee Hopkins, a National Geographic photographer.

"It ended up being so clear that there was a green flash as the sun came up, even as just a crescent as it was already in partial eclipse! The timing ended up being absolutely perfect, getting to view totality right in the middle of the sliver of clear sky that was left underneath the cloud," Lindblad said on Instagram.

"Everyone that was awake was scattered up and down the ship decks on the starboard side and started cheering as the sun went completely behind to witness the perfect eclipse ring."
