BC Says Ottawa Helping in Battle Against U.S. Threat to Canadian Cruise Stops

BC Premier John Horgan says that he has spoken with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Ambassador to the U.S. Kirsten Hillman regarding a new bill proposed by an Alaskan politician that would permanently remove the requirement for cruise ships travelling to Alaska to originate or call in a Canadian port. Horgan said Trudeau shares his concerns and was told that the federal government is well placed to monitor and manage what happens in Washington, D.C., regarding the bill. Horgan also said there has been an unprecedented Canadian collaboration to respond to Alaska lawmakers squeezing B.C. out of the Alaska cruise industry. The Greater Victoria Harbour Authority also added that it is pleased to see the government taking the matter seriously.
