Flair Airlines hits Turbulence as Flights Cancelled at Waterloo Regional Airport

Flair Airline had a bumpy month at YKR, cancelling eight flights in 27 days with passengers left at the gates. Between 12AUG and 07SEP, the airline cancelled eight out of 186 flights scheduled to land or depart from YKF, according to data and analytics company Cirium. “Will I fly Flair again? Yes, probably. But I hope they can sort out their customer service and grow into the service they promise. They aren’t there yet,” said Tim Horne, a Cambridge man left stranded in Halifax when Flair cancelled their flight home from Nova Scotia. There were no other Flair options to get them home for days. According to Flair chief executive Stephen Jones, the many cancellations were due to poor weather, wildfires in B.C., and unexpected mechanical issues. However, Jones acknowledged that customer service is where the airline went wrong. “Where we let ourselves down, in particular in JUL and AUG, was in the level of resources that we had in our customer service centre,” Jones said. He said improvements have been made and call centre wait times are down to 15 minutes.
