Hawaiian tourism officials are reporting a steep decline in tourist arrivals since the state’s Governor pleaded with travellers to stay away. Trade groups across the state have reported a decline in bookings equal to millions of dollars. Hawaii’s Maui County alone has seen a decline of more than 50,000 room nights. Travel businesses in the state are also warning of another round of layoffs, and Mufi Hannemann, President and CEO of the Hawaii Lodging and Tourism Association said the losses were “staggering.”
