The U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is doubling fines for air passengers who refuse to wear their masks, and fines will be higher for repeat offenders compared to first-time offenders. The TSA’s mask mandate for aircraft is in effect through at least 18JAN 2022. First time offers will now be charged between USD $500-$1000, while repeat offenders will be fined between USD $1000-$3000. “We appreciate the majority of travelers each day who voluntarily follow the requirement, but find this action necessary to maximize the protections for those who use and work within the transportation system, and to contain COVID-19. By doubling the range of penalties, we seek to reinforce the importance of voluntary adherence,” said TSA Administrator David Pekoske.
