The Jamaica Tourist Board (JTB) has just shuffled its deck, but it’s Canadian travel advisors who might soon find another card up their sleeves.
That’s because JTB has transferred two nine-year veterans, Oral Chambers and Sedrecia Francis, to the Great White North—relocating from the United States and Jamaica, respectively—signalling a strong push to turn the Caribbean island into a hotspot destination among Canadian travellers.
On the heels of a successful nine-year run at JTB’s Miami office—during which time he proved instrumental in enhancing Jamaica’s repute among destination travellers—Chambers developed a reputation as a blue chip among the company’s upper echelon.
And, although Chambers is relocating to JTB’s Toronto office, he’s tasked with cultivating relationships with agencies throughout the expansive region, which comprises Canada’s largest conurbation.
“I am excited to lend my experience and expertise to our Canadian team and our operation there,” Chambers said. “This is an opportunity to ensure Canadians consider Jamaica as the premier destination to visit for their vacations.”
Sedrecia Francis, who joined JTB in Jan. 2016 and most recently served as a media relations officer out of the company’s Kingston-based corporate office, has been promoted to Business Development Officer and will be responsible for Western Canada.
Perhaps it isn’t merely her savvy in having managed press junkets showcasing JTB’s tourism packages, but her acumen in reaching audiences through non-traditional media that convinced the 60-year-old tourism board she can, similarly, reach them in new markets.
And she appears raring to go.
“From my work in my most recent role in the Jamaica office, I can tell you first-hand, that Jamaica is a craveable destination for many visitors looking for a unique and unparalleled experience with sun, sand, sea, and the tranquility as well as the energetic vibe,” she said, adding , “there’s something for everyone.”
