Intrepid Travel says January 2025 was a remarkable month for Canadian travellers, marking a record-setting achievement for the adventure travel company.

The company reported a 61% year-over-year increase in bookings from Canada, a growth rate that exceeds that of its U.S. counterpart.

"With Canadian travel demand at an all-time high, nearly 30% of all Intrepid customers in January were Canadian."

A recent Intrepid Travel survey revealed:

  • 67% of Canadians plan to travel more this year.
  • Nearly half are prioritizing lesser-visited destinations over traditional hotspots.
  • 1 in 4 Canadians are planning their first solo adventure.
  • 47% feel more confident stepping outside their comfort zone with the safety and support of a guided tour.
  • For Canadians, travel is becoming a path to both adventure and well-being. One in four seek a healthier, active lifestyle, and 20% prioritize deeper connections with nature.

Top Destinations for Canadian Travellers

According to Intrepid, the destinations favoured by Canadian travellers are similar to those of their U.S. counterparts, with Morocco and Japan leading the list. North African countries, particularly Morocco and Egypt, are gaining popularity among Canadians, indicating a rising demand for immersive experiences that provide cultural richness beyond conventional tourist sites.

“Travel in 2025 is becoming less about ticking off landmarks and more about personal growth,” said Christian Walters, President of Canada at Intrepid Travel.

“Canadians are craving deeper connections—with the places they visit, the people they meet, and even with themselves.”

And the numbers prove it," he stated.

“Canadian travel isn’t just back; it’s thriving beyond pre-pandemic levels, fueling economies and supporting millions of jobs worldwide. The comeback isn’t happening—it’s already here."
