Travellers flying out of YYZ Terminal 1 will now benefit from a streamlined security screening.
The technology eliminates the need for passengers to remove items such as permitted liquids (100 ml or less), aerosols, gels, medical devices, and large electronics, including laptops, from their carry-on bags.
The Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA) has implemented the new system on one screening line at the Terminal 1 International checkpoint, with plans to expand its availability next year.
"We are excited to see the CT X-ray technology arrive at Toronto Pearson. We know innovations in technology help enhance passenger experience," said Khalil Lamrabet, Chief Operations Officer at Toronto Pearson. "With this new equipment, travellers will be able to move through security screening in a faster, more efficient way.
"We are confident this will create a smoother journey for our travellers,"
YYZ is among the first Canadian airports to deploy this advanced technology in CATSA's national rollout.
As previously reported, CATSA installed the scanners earlier this year at YUL and YYC.
