“Show me Taiwan” Kicks Off in Toronto

The Taiwan Tourism Administration (TTA) launched its yearlong campaign, "Show Me Taiwan!" in Canada, aiming to strengthen the bond between Canadian travellers and Taiwan's vibrant culture.

The campaign kicked off in Toronto on 09DEC with a lively pop-up booth at the CF Eaton Centre. In Vancouver, the excitement continues from 16DEC to 17DEC at CF Richmond Centre.

The public was invited to drop by and explore Taiwan's adventure, culinary, and cultural offerings—going beyond traditional tourism.

Situated just east of Mainland China, south of Japan, and west of Hong Kong, Taiwan Tourism wants Canadians to view Taiwan as a great "stopover" country before continuing their journey.

In 2019, over 135,000 Canadians visited Taiwan; however, the number dropped during the pandemic. In 2023, over 71,000 visitors have already made the journey, and Taiwan wants to significantly surpass this number in 2024.

Claire C. S. Wen Director for Taiwan Tourism Admin

Claire C. S. Wen, Director for Taiwan Tourism Admin in New York and Toronto, shared her thoughts on the promotion, stating, "We are delighted to introduce Taiwan Tourism at Toronto Eaton Centre and are keen to attract international visitors. The tourism administration has launched many new incentive programs for visitors."

"Taiwan has also initiated a six-month campaign, offering overseas visitors a 'buy one, get one free' deal on high-speed rail tickets to central and southern Taiwan," she adds.

Other incentives Wen mentioned include half-day tours for transiting passengers at Taoyuan International Airport, with connecting flights leaving between 7 and 24 hours after arriving in Taiwan. Interested clients can sign up at halfdaytour.taiwan.net.tw

Earlier this year (May 2023), Taiwan launched a campaign for independent travellers planning visits ranging from "three to ninety days." Participants can enter the Lucky Draw Competition – 'Taiwan the Lucky Land' for a chance to win $216 CA (NT$5000) to supplement their spending in the country. At the Taiwan Tourism Booth, visitors had the opportunity to play a "pinball game," a staple in Taiwan's night markets.

Visitors were taught how to write their names in Chinese at a calligraphy session, with a beautiful bookmark takeaway.

Paiwan tribe bead bracelet kits were available for visitors to make their own. Unique glass beads, handmade by Taiwan's indigenous Paiwan tribe, each offer a different blessing.
