Swoop Marks Last Day of Operation

WestJet’s low-cost subsidiary Swoop marked its last day of operation on 28OCT.

The curlycue pink livery took off for the last time just over five years after its introduction, as the LCC merges with mainline WestJet operations.

In a statement, Swoop said “Today we mark Swoop’s final day of operation, celebrating 5 years of ultra-low cost flights. As we merge with WestJet, we look forward to new adventures ahead. Thanks to the loyal Swoop travellers for their support.”

In June of this year, WestJet CEO Alexis von Hoensbroech told CTV “ keeping Swoop separate would make little sense financially given the higher labour costs,” but said each WestJet flight will offer a portion of ultra-low-cost tickets.

In labour negotiations with the Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA), it was revealed that pilots of both carriers will receive a 24% pay raise over four years. A majority of the cockpit crew members showed their commitment to the merger deal.
