Sunwing Survey: Canadians Range from ‘Max Relaxers’ to ‘Reserved Vacationers’

Sunwing Survey 2023

Sunwing Vacations' latest survey results reveal insights into how Canadians spend their vacation time. The survey, conducted in English and French from 22SEP to 25SEP 2023, polled 1,504 Canadians who are members of the Angus Reid forum.

According to Sunwing, 27% of Canadians consider themselves "max relaxers," choosing to relax extensively during their vacation. Similarly, 28% identify as "reserved vacationers," primarily interacting with their travel companions.

Additionally, 22% see themselves as "adventure hunters," actively seeking new experiences while on holiday. Notably, this figure rises to 34% among younger Canadians aged 18-34.

12% of respondents are "sun-seekers," primarily aiming to enjoy the sunshine during their vacation. Meanwhile, 9% are "social butterflies," eager to socialize with other vacationers.

"Our research shows us that there are distinct personas that define how Canadians like to travel. While unplugging from daily life, dialling up the relaxation and spending time with their travelling companions is high on many Canadians' wish lists, an equal number of Canadians are keen to amp up the adventure and try out new experiences," said Samantha Taylor, Chief Marketing Officer for Sunwing Vacations Group.

"No matter their vacation persona, Canadians can get more value out of their well-deserved time off with Sunwing Vacations. By saving on their total vacation package, they can spend more time in destination doing what they love – whether that's laying out by the pool in Punta Cana or zip-lining over the treetops in Mexico or Costa Rica – and maximizing every minute that they're in destination."

Of those planning a sunny getaway in the next year, 30% intend to sunbathe by the beach or pool.

When considering their next sun vacation companions, 53% of respondents plan to travel with a partner or significant other. 28% will be with family, 12% with friends, and 7% plan a solo trip.

Asked about the key factor when booking a sun vacation, 45% highlighted value for money as their primary consideration. This was followed by the destination's safety and reputation, noted by 28%.

Sunwing Vacations' "All In on Sun Sale" is currently available, offering savings of up to CAD $800 per pair for bookings made by 05NOV 2023 for trips between 01NOV 2023 and 24MAR 2024.
