Lynx Air is lobbying for support from Ottawa as it announces a change at the top of its organizational chart.
The ULCC (ultra-low-cost carrier) has announced that its president and CEO, Merren McArthur, is scheduled to resign in SEP.
McArthur is the founding CEO of Lynx Air, joining the ULCC in JUN 2021 and leading the airline to its first flight launch in APR 2022.
“I am grateful to have been given the opportunity to lead Lynx Air from the early planning phase to launch and beyond. I truly believe in Lynx Air’s vision to inspire more Canadians to fly, providing a great flying experience at an ultra-affordable price. It has been a great privilege to lead the talented team at Lynx Air, whose passion and commitment knows no bounds," said McArthur.
As Open Jaw reported, McArthur is an Australian lawyer and former CEO of Tigerair Australia and Virgin Australia Regional Airlines, two airlines she is credited with rescuing, and founding CEO of Virgin Australia Cargo. She is stepping down for personal reasons, saying that it’s time for her to return to her family in Australia.
Board chair Bill Franke acknowledged her contributions during a challenging time in aviation history.
“I want to thank Merren for her significant contributions to Lynx Air over the past two years,” said Franke. "Merren has overseen the strategy, launch and rapid growth of Lynx Air during one of the most challenging periods in aviation history. The airline has developed a strong brand within the Canadian market and is well positioned to continue offering ultra low fares to its passengers.”
McArthur will continue in the role until the end of SEP, allowing time for the selection and appointment of a new CEO.
The budget airline is on an expansion trajectory, having launched new routes for the summer.
And it appears the ULCC is looking for help from Ottawa to continue on that path.
On 30JUN, the ULCC announced its plans to lobby the federal government to access possible funding, reports iPolitics. GT & Company Executive Advisors have taken on the role of lobbyists for Lynx Air. Their efforts are reportedly targeting government support for “infrastructure and training, to expand operations and increase staffing.”
