Is Mossad Behind The Egyptian Shark Attacks?

As Egypt struggles to reassure tourists after a series of shark attacks in its waters, an Egyptian official has complicated matters by suggesting that Mossad, the Israeli secret service, may have been behind the attacks.

“What is being said about the Mossad throwing the deadly shark [in the sea] to hit tourism in Egypt is not out of the question, but it needs time to confirm,” South Sinai Governor Muhammad Abdel Fadil Shousha told Egyptian state news site egynews.net.

Israel wasted no time in rejecting the governor’s theory as “too ludicrous” for comment, the Jerusalem Post reported.

A shark attack in the Red Sea off the coast of popular resort Sharm el-Sheikh took the life of a German tourist early this week

Experts believe the shark responsible for the attacks is still on the loose. There are several theories as to what spurred the unusual attacks, all of them more plausible than the Egyptian governor’s spy novel plot.

Some speculate that overfishing in deeper waters may have forced sharks closer to the shore. Another theory is that irresponsible local tour operators have been feeding sharks or trying to bait them.
