YYZ Sees Massive Rebound in 2022 Pax Traffic

Toronto’s Pearson Airport reports a huge comeback in 2022, with air passenger traffic jumping by a staggering 180.8% and an increase in generated net income of $422.7 million.

The Greater Toronto Airports Authority (GTAA) released its financial and operating results 23MAR. Passenger activity increased to 35.6-million travellers in 2022, an increase of 22.9 million passengers compared to 2021. Passenger activity in 2022 was about 70.5 per cent of activity in 2019.

As predicted, travellers passing through YYZ increased dramatically amid the easing of COVID-related travel restrictions; however, reports indicate the president and CEO of the GTAA, Deborah Flint, is calling for the federal government’s help to ease backlogs as the airport struggles to keep up with soaring demand.
