Dominican Republic will be the site of two new properties, the first Sports Illustrated resort ever and Planet Hollywood's first resort in the country.

Sports Illustrated

As reported by Caribbean Journal, the first-ever Sports Illustrated resort opened the week of 16JAN 2023 in Cap Cana. The property, named the Sports Illustrated Resorts Marina and Villas Cap Cana, is a rebranding of the former Ancora Cap Cana resort.

According to Sports Illustrated CEO Chris Schroeder, the location in Cap Cana was chosen for its "active lifestyle" offerings, such as golf courses like Punta Espada to its equestrian center and its fishing and boating scenes. Additionally, Cap Cana also recently opened its new "Sports City," which includes a mountain-bike circuit, sports fields and tennis.

Planet Hollywood

After opening properties in Cancun and Costa Rica, the Planet Hollywood Beach Resort is scheduled to open in Puerto Plata in late 2024. The all-inclusive resort, part of the Blue Diamond Resorts brand, which is the Hotels and Resorts division of Sunwing Travel Group, will be part of the area’s new Punta Bergantin development.

Punta Bergantin is envisioned to include a group of resorts, along with an 18-hole golf course, a residential development, as well as a shopping and a movie studio.

The new property will feature Hollywood memorabilia as well as the brand's PH Spa and PUMPED fitness center.
