WestJet announced on 01SEP it is increasing flights to its previously announced winter schedule, with service from YYC to both YOW and LAX.
The news comes days after, as Open Jaw reported on 31AUG, it was revealed that Air Canada would be cutting non-stop flights out of YYC to six major routes including Ottawa and Los Angeles, as well as Halifax, Honolulu, Cancun and Frankfurt, at the end of OCT due to pilot shortages, according to BNNBloomberg.
"With increased demand for these two popular routes from Calgary, we are able to provide enhanced capacity and more seats for our valued guests this winter," said Jane McCurdy, WestJet Director, Network Planning and Alliances.
Beginning 30OCT, WestJet will double its daily service between YYC and YOW, adding 7 additional weekly flights during peak travel periods.
In addition, 5 weekly flights have been added between YYC and LAX. In total, WestJet says it will operate close to 900 weekly flights from YYC during peak travel periods this winter season.
