Both Air Canada and WestJet touched down in San Diego International Airport (SAN) over the past weekend.
Air Canada
On 21MAY, Air Canada celebrated its first nonstop service between YUL and SAN, announced San Diego International Airport, as the first-ever nonstop service between the two cities. Flights operate three times weekly during the peak summer travel season with arrivals into SAN on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays and departures from SAN on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.
“The new flights to Montréal are a welcome addition to our international route offerings,” said Kimberly Becker, San Diego County Regional Airport Authority President and CEO. “Montréal has been our largest and most requested market within Canada and serves as a connection to other Canadian cities and beyond. I would like to congratulate Air Canada on their expansion at SAN.”
“With customer interest in travel resuming post pandemic, we are thrilled to launch our services connecting San Diego to our Montréal hub, complementing our flights from San Diego to Vancouver and Toronto,” said Lisa Pierce – Vice President, Canada & USA Sales for Air Canada.
Air Canada resumed service between SAN and YVR on 01AUG 2021, and resumed service between SAN and YYZ on 03MAR 2022.
WestJet
After suspending the service in MAR 2020 due to the pandemic, WestJet resumed flights between YVR and SAN on 20MAY. The nonstop flights operate two times weekly on Thursdays and Sundays through SEP 2022.
“I welcome back the seasonal nonstop flights to Vancouver on WestJet,” said Kimberly Becker, San Diego County Regional Airport Authority President and CEO. “This is an important route as it allows travelers to visit western Canada but also connect to other North American routes across Canada. We appreciate WestJet resuming service to Vancouver.”
This is WestJet’s second nonstop service to SAN. The airline resumed service between YYC and SAN in SEP 2021.
