Visitor Center Dedicated to LGBTQ+ History will Open Next to NYC’S Stonewall Inn

A visitor center dedicated to telling the story of the LGBTQ+ rights movement will open next door to the Stonewall Inn, with groundbreaking set to take place on 24JUN. The Stonewall National Monument Visitor Center in New York City's Greenwich Village neighborhood is expected to open in summer 2024. An LGBTQ+ non-profit advocacy organization will manage the center in partnership with the U.S. National Park Service.

On 28JUN 1969, patrons at the gay bar fought back against a police raid, which helped start the contemporary LGBTQ+ rights movement, reports USA Today, and the rebellion is commemorated every year.
