UK Security Rules on Carry On Liquids and Laptops could be Lifted in 2024

Air travel security restrictions on liquids and laptops in hand luggage could be abolished in the UK in 2024 due to the deployment of hi-tech 3D scanners – already in use at US airports such as ATL and ORD.

This technology, enabling staff to zoom in on a bag’s contents and rotate the images for inspection, has been trialled at LHR since 2017, The Guardian reports.

Although a final decision has yet to be made, the UK government has already given major UK airports a deadline of mid-2024 to install more advanced scanners, while it carries out a review with a formal announcement expected in the coming weeks.
