U.S. DoT Concludes Air Canada Ticket Refund Complaints Investigation

The U.S. Transportation Department (DoT) said it has completed its investigation of Air Canada over ticket refund complaints, but settlement negotiations with the airline “are continuing.” Skift notes that Air Canada has yet to comment. In JUN 2021, the DoT said it was seeking a USD $25.5m fine from Air Canada over its failure to provide timely refunds to thousands of consumers who requested them for flights to or from the U.S. The airline has previously urged the department to dismiss the complaints, saying the DoT’s “arbitrary conduct flatly contradicts years of well-established law.” The DoT also recently concluded investigations of United Airlines for similar reasons. The DoT says that it is still reviewing 30,100 complaints involving 18 airlines out of 20 investigations it had initially opened.
