TSA Quadruples Number of Screeners to Keep Pax Moving at Busy U.S. Airports

The Transport Security Administration (TSA) has “quadrupled” the number of employees for screening operations at airports expected to be crowded this summer, said Administrator David Pekoske on 10MAY.

Pekoske said nearly 1,000 TSA employees have volunteered to be sent to other airports as needed, part of the agency’s plan to handle what it expects to be a busy summer. “We’re likely going to exceed in some airports by good measure the 2019 numbers.”

On average, the TSA has screened more than 2.1 million travellers per day in APR and MAY 2022, around 90 per cent as many people the administration screened during the same period in 2019. When summer rolls around, airlines are expecting crowds to be similar to 2019 levels, when more than 2.5 million people were screened at U.S. airports daily.
