YTZ has reopened following an evacuation of its passenger terminal when a “suspicious item” was found in a passenger’s carry-on by the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA) on the morning of 27SEP. Toronto Police, Toronto Fire and EMS were dispatched to the airport, and the item was cleared and normal operations resumed after four hours. “The Explosive Disposal Unit (EDU) of Toronto Police Services retrieved the item, conducted a full investigation, and have confirmed that the item is a medical device and not a threat to public safety,” said PortsToronto spokesperson Jessica Pellerin. YTZ noted that passengers to the airport should expect some delays as airlines return to schedule.
