Prices for travel have risen at “a breakneck pace” in 2022, and could keep on climbing, according to travel booking and cost-tracking site Hopper. Company analysts expect prices to further rise 6 to 12 per cent in the coming weeks before peaking in late JUN, reports Frommers.
Hopper cites the increased cost of jet fuel as a driving factor for the rise in airfare, as well as the large number of cancelled flights. According to Hopper, U.S. domestic airfare has risen 34 per cent compared to summer 2019, while U.S.-outbound international flight prices are up 2.5 per cent compared to 2019. Hotel rates are up 36 per cent compared to 2019, while car rental rates are predicted to be up by 20 per cent in summer 2022 compared to JAN 2022.
